Upkeep

I seem to have been doing a bit of bloggy stuff recently but haven’t been producing any actual content.

I’ve rejigged the template so I’m now widget-ready. (I actually went back and re-designed the standard template but realised I could have just copied the new WP2.2 sidebar.php into the old template to accomplish this. I think.)

Anyway, that’s why the font has changed: I worked on the image using a different computer that didn’t have the one I used before. It’s not vision and passion driving the header re-design, it’s just a lack of resources, or inconsistent ones.

I’m doing it because I’ll need to set up a couple of non-blog websites soon and will probably just use WP to run them. I just want to get some of the ins&outs sorted so it’ll be easy for the people running the sites to manage them.

I’d like to see more convergence of the technologies that surround me. I like to get the most out of everything.

Things I can do:

  • Post to here on my phone (the new k800. It has web, so… easy)
  • Upload camera pics to flickr (using ShoZu – nifty phone app)
  • Post image and text to old blogger site
  • Upload to flickr by email
  • Receive email on my phone (accounts other than gmail)

Things I’d like to do

  • Post to here via email. Still too complicated
  • Post images to here, while have them hosted somewhere else (blogger or flickr)
  • Receive email on my phone (could be just a bad setting, will have to double check)

See, I take the odd funny photo that I don’t really want to showcase as great photos but more as bloggable stuff. It’s mostly badly written signs, which are a constant source of amusement. (I saw one yesterday at the Port Adelaide Markets. The stall was selling some 3D glass etching things and there was a sign, hastily written in red texta saying

Please be “Carefull”

Inverted commas kill me.

So, if anyone’s a dab hand at WP and wants to help out… whatever. I’ll just wait for technology to catch up.

I recently re-designed my template (still in blogger) too and I’m quite proud of my skills. I am really not any good at html code so this was a great achievement for me!

I’m sorry I can’t help you with WP.

I found the Joe Tan plugin the best for incorporating photos easily into WP.

And I like FAlbum by Randombyte for the gallery function.

Gmail has a phone function – you could set up a gmail account and forward your mail there…

    And you changed the font??

Got that noodles plugin for flickr but I’m still figuring it out. I still want it to host the photos on flickr, not here.

    And yeah, I have gmail.

And the header image font changed. Sorry, i didn’t reread before i posted… didn’t really make sense

Yep you host the photos on Flickr and the plug-in will pick them up and you’ll see a tab in that file upload area underneath where you post which says ‘photos’.

That tab links to all your photos in flickr and when you click on them you’ll get 5 or so options for photo size on your blog.

Once in your blog when you click on the photo it generates a page with a bigger version on it and a link to the relevant photo on Flickr.
